Knowledge DTLA participants will understand how the components of The Five Pillars of Future-Ready Teaching & Learning lead to desired outcomes in the classroom.
Skills DTLA participants will be able to begin utilizing the tools and practices within The Five Pillars of Future-Ready Teaching & Learning for planning instruction.

Introduction

Required Readings, Materials, and Tasks
  • Review The Five Pillars of Future-Ready Teaching & Learning
  • Google Apps for Education (DPS)- a suite of web-based tools (documents, storage, calendar, web sites, video, etc.) accessible with each DPS staff and students' username and password at http://docs.dpsnc.net.  (Charter school teachers- you will need to create a personal Google account if you do not already have one.)  
      1. Log into Google Apps for Education with your DPS username and password (or, charter schools, your personal account)
      2. Create a text Document, title it with your first and last name with the words "DTLA Google Apps Prerequisite Document" (e.g. "Jerry Williamson DTLA Google Apps Prerequisite Document"
      3. Share the document with Jerry.Williamson@dpsnc.net
  • Discovery Education (DE)- a multimedia database for educators to use in the teaching and learning of all aspects of their curriculum.
    • Discovery Education Basics (view the first fifteen minutes of the video on this page)
    • Complete the following tasks:
      • Log into Discovery Education (DE) with your DPS username and password
      • Find a video (full or segment) that you can use in a lesson plan during the first quarter of 2014-15
      • Add the video to your My Content in DE
      • Charter schools- find a video on YouTube that you can use in a lesson plan during the first quarter of 2014-15
  • Activinspire- a presentation software package, similar to PowerPoint, with embedded tools for effective teaching.  It can be used with any interactive white board including Activboards and Brightlinks.
    • View ActivInspire Quick Reference Guide 1- Intro and Toolbox
    • Complete this task:
      • Verify that you have Actinspire installed on the computer you will be bringing to the DTLA
      • If you need to install Activinspire, here are written instructions (you need to be logged into your DPS Google Apps account (?) to view these instructions)
      • Charter schools- you can use SMART Notebook, PowerPoint, Google Slides in lieu of ActivInspire
  • TPACK- a framework that joins three knowledge areas (technological, pedagogical, and content) to enhance instruction.
