Multi-Tiered System of Support

MTSS is a multi-tiered framework which promotes school improvement through engaging reseach-based cademic and behavioral practices. NC MTSS employs a systems-approach using data-based problem-solving to maximize growth for ALL.

With a focus on equity and the whole child, MTSS in DPS encompasses well-defined tiers of instruction and support in the areas of academics, behavior and social-emotional learning. Each tier of support increases in intensity from one level to the next.

  • Tier 1 (Core): focus on school-wide or whole class instruction.

  • Tier 2 (Supplemental): focus on small group intervention or enrichment.

  • Tier 3 (Intensive): focus on individualized support for a small number of students with advanced enrichment or intervention needs.
