ESL Statement of Intent
It is the intent of the ESL program to provide English Language Learners the opportunity to participate effectively in the regular instructional program by creating a learning environment that encourages students' pride in their cultural heritage and provides the cognitive and affective support to help them achieve academic success and prepare them for productive careers in the future.
Our primary focus is to provide language assistance services and classroom environments that promote English proficiency. Our purpose is to nurture and to encourage English Language Learners to achieve their highest potential.
The goal of the ESL Program is to provide support for students who speak other languages and are identified as needing language services in order to experience academic success both in the classroom and on state assessments.
ESL services are designed both for newcomers to U.S. Schools as well as students who have been in U.S. schools for a few years. Students may be proficient in spoken English but may require support in reading and writing. It is important that all students are successful and ESL services are provided based upon need, until they exit the program.
Our ultimate goal is to prepare students for success in reading and writing in all academic areas.
