Hybrid Learning Introductory Series
Durham Public Schools professional learning series Hybrid Learning provides a comprehensive approach to enhance and accelerate teaching and learning utilizing technology and digital tools. The Hybrid Learning series will support teachers in using technology to personalize learning and engage students as digital learners. Educators will learn to use effective teaching strategies in a hybrid (face-to-face and remote online) learning environment.
This entire course will take between 5-10 hours to complete, and each person who completes the course will receive 1 CEU (10 credit hours) in Digital Learning.
Beginning teachers and other incoming certified staff can participate in this professional development using personal (free) Google and Canvas Learning Management accounts at this link.
Module 1: Introduction to Hybrid/Online Learning
Teachers will...
identify the key elements of Digital Hybrid Learning in DPS and how they pertain to their role.
analyze the results of the 2018-2019 Goal 1D Survey, evaluate how the results reflect our ability to personalize and accelerate student learning, and create strategies for improving outcomes.
assess their Hybrid Digital Learning skills in terms of personalizing and accelerating student learning.

Module 2: Hybrid Digital Learning- Intro to Canvas
Teachers will...
learn to navigate the Canvas platform.
brainstorm ways to create a Canvas course to simulate what they and students do in a physical classroom.
valuate exemplar Canvas courses.
create a Canvas course, add a template, and customize it.

Module 3: Collaborating Effectively with Digital Tools
Teachers will...
investigate the building blocks of structure lessons and how they relate to using digital tools.
identify, evaluate, and utilize appropriate digital tools and resources to challenge students to create, think critically, solve problems, establish reliability, communicate their ideas, collaborate effectively.
Utilize appropriate digital tools and resources with consideration of digital citizenship.
Develop a lesson that integrates digital tools and post it in the Canvas LMS.
